Well, one of the many benefits of switching to the Crossroads Network is the ability to group nicks together and we can set up custom hostmasking.
Right now you're probably thinking to yourself "What the hell does that mean?"
Nick Grouping
Let me explain. You're all roleplayers, so that probably means you have more than one nickname. Most players have a 'mun' nickname and a character. And many other players have more than one character. Isn't it annoying when Nickserv constantly wants your password when your change your nick to one of your other registered nicknames? Pester, no more.
You can now group your nicknames together. This means that nickserv will know who you are, no matter which of those nicks you use. If you switch between your registered nicks, as long as you've ID'ed yourself at least once, Nickserv will know it's you and not pester you.
This also has the benefit of things such as password setups and if someone wants to send you a memo. Several times now people have sent me memos to my "Lorelei" nickname instead of "jakkal". Well if I'm not RPing, I'm not going to get that memo. With the group command, Nickserv knows that "Lorelei" is also "Jakkal" and if I'm using either nick, it will tell me if I have a memo.
So how do you do this? Easy, first you need to register your "Main Nick". By this I mean a nickname that you plan to keep for a while. Your mun name would probably work best, or a character you don't plan to give up. If your main nickname drops, the group setting will drop as well. Now register your other nicks. You need to use the same password as your first nick. Now, using your secondary nicks, type:
/msg nickserv group MainNick MainNickPassword
By the way, the /ns command doesn't work on CR.
Custom Hostmasking
Remember on Sorcery how it would change your hostmask (your ISP's address for you, such as your IP) to a whole bunch of screwy letters?
Jakkal is FyreWolf@9903cb30.nc.14056255.com.hmsk
But on CrossRoads:
Jakkal is FyreWolf@blacktapestries.com
The "blacktapestries.com" address is nothing more than a custom host. You can set your host to anything as long as it's in a domain style setup, in other words: something dot something. There can't be any spaces in it either.
Examples:
Jakkal is FyreWolf@I.Dont.Care.About.Masks
Jakkal is FyreWolf@I.Brake.For.Tailgaters
Now, here's the thing with the hostmasks. Only an IRCop (such as myself) can set them up. I will not constantly change your hostmasks, so make your choice wisely. When you've decided what you want, post it here. When I get a chance I'll add it -to your main nick-. Also, your nick MUST be registered for this to work.
After I've told you that it's set up, next time you're on and ID'ed, type /msg hostserv on . That will turn the masking on.
